Reception Curriculum Targets
Summer Term

The following targets are what we will aim for all children to achieve by the end of term.

Obviously there will be some children who will exceed these targets and will therefore receive work which will challenge them appropriately.

There will also be children for whom these targets might be difficult and they will receive the appropriate support to help them.
Maths
• To count reliably to 30
• To be able to order and write numbers to 20
• To be able to do simple addition and subtraction calculations independently
• To understand place value of teen numbers
(*We will be teaching other concepts alongside number such as shape and measurement. However it is the number work that will be our main focus.)

English
• To hold their pencil correctly (this is an on-going target)
• To write the set 1 sounds correctly and independently
• To begin to recognise and write the set 2 sounds
• To be able to blend the pure sounds in set 1 from the Read Write Inc scheme to read simple sentences
• To write simple words and sentences independently
(* Read Write Inc (our phonics) scheme is taught separately from the rest of the English curriculum and targets do not apply for this as it is not ‘year group’ based)

Year 1 Curriculum Targets
Summer Term

The following targets are what we will aim for all children to achieve by the end of term.

Obviously there will be some children who will exceed these targets and will therefore receive work which will challenge them appropriately.

There will also be some children for whom these targets might be difficult and they will receive the appropriate support to help them.
Maths
• To be able to use and recognise number bonds to 10.
• To cement their understanding of tens and units.
• Numbers to 100 – instant recognition, before and after, crossing the tens and writing them accurately.
• To begin to count in 2s and 5s, and to count on and back in 10s.

(*We will be teaching other concepts alongside number such as shape, money, time and measurement. However it is the number work that will be our main focus.)

English
• To continue trying to use capital letters and full stops to start and finish their sentences.
• To start to join the letters of certain sound blends.
• To produce writing where the letters are appropriately sized and placed on the line correctly.
• To be able to recite, and begin to record the alphabet in writing.

Year 2 Curriculum Targets
Summer Term

The following targets are what we will aim for all children to achieve by the end of term.

Obviously there will be some children who will exceed these targets and will therefore receive work which will challenge them appropriately.

There will also be children for whom these targets might be difficult and they will receive the appropriate support to help them.
Maths
• To order numbers to a 999
• To have an understanding of number bonds (10, 20 and 100)
• To round numbers less than 100 to the nearest 10
• To count on reliably in 2s, 5s and 10s; to recall multiplication facts for these numbers
• To begin to understand the inverse link between multiplication and division
• To choose and use appropriate operations and calculation strategies in order to solve word problems.
• To use a variety of strategies to add and subtract mentally*
• To understand the place value of each number in a 3-digit number*
(*These targets are revision based as all key concepts previously taught will be regularly revised during this final term. We will be teaching other concepts alongside number such as shape, money, time and measurement. However, it is the number work that will be our main focus)

Literacy
• To confidently join handwriting
• To be able to write their alphabet in order using both lowercase and capital letters
• To secure use of capital letters and full stops
• To begin to use question/exclamation marks when appropriate
• To use interesting sentence starters in creative writing
• To identify nouns, verbs and adjectives and understand how these enhance independent writing
• To begin to use connectives and descriptive phrases when writing independently
