Swimming

SwimmingSwimming at Cumnor is a year-round sport providing opportunities for all ages and levels of abilities to improve their standard. This can be on a recreational or competitive basis and expert help is always on hand to enable the children to achieve this.

FUNdamental for all levels

The swimming programme starts as young as Pre-school (including nursery) and continues through to Year 8. All children are given one 30-40 minute lesson every week during term time. The ethos of Cumnor swimming is very much geared towards key foundations with emphasis on fun activities, skills and techniques to establish a strong technical background which provides the corner stone to a successful swimming career. This method prolongs children’s involvement in the sport and enables children more opportunity to realise their swimming potential. The swimming program prides itself on giving the young swimmers a foundation of great skills and techniques complemented with fun and exciting activities giving a good aerobic base to help with all activity that they are involved in.

Swim Squad

Swim squad sessions are one hour long and happen once a week for its members. Our small but highly motivated team trains at the pool at 5pm on Monday’s and Tuesday’s  to improve technique and water fitness. The swimmers compete at all levels of competition from friendlies and development meets all the way through to the IAPS nationals. The swim squad has a tremendous record, competing at an average of three galas per term against local schools in the area of Sussex. The squad has proven to be a formidable force at the IAPS in both the girls’ and boys’ tournament. Children also have links with local swimming club’s in the area meaning that they get plenty of  support and extra fitness with their club as well as sporting experiences outside of the school.

Outstanding facilities and Teaching Staff

The advantage of swimming at Cumnor has to be the wonderful facilities coupled with the amount of water time available to each child at the school, a luxury many other school’s unfortunately do not get.

The Joint Management team of Cumnor Swimming is Amanda Brown and Scott Brand who bring a wealth of experience to Cumnor’s swimming.
