As I write, Belinda and I are in York attending the Boarding Schools Association Conference which is one of the few opportunities during the school calendar year for Heads of both Prep and Public Schools to combine in discussing issues of the day as well as having the opportunity to have less formal conversations together.
Last week, it was a pleasure to watch the Drama Scholars’ perform on Thursday evening and once again congratulations to all of those involved.
The Y6 Charity Fundraiser last week raised approximately £900 in support of Water Aid; the wonderful charity chosen by all of Year 6. Well done to everyone.
The home weekend then saw Mr Burgess, Mr Gabbard and Mr Brand perform, what seems to me, to be super human efforts in running almost 3 marathons, cycling 75 miles and swimming 150 lengths with legs tied! Do please use the following link to support their efforts in aid of Motor Neurone Disease Association.
The week begins with some Y8 children taking their Academic Scholarships for Brighton and Hurst and others their mock CE French Speaking Exams; meanwhile the 4-day period of written CE examinations is just over 4 weeks away.
Matt Mockridge writes: If any golfing parent would like to join us on Sunday 7th May at Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Course for lunch, a round, drinks and prizes at a cost of £60, we are gathering at 12pm in the West Course clubhouse. All handicaps welcome. Please email email@example.com if you’d like to attend.
Belinda Heinrich writes: Please ensure that your child has all their belongings named and numbered clearly. If you’re passing clothing down to a younger sibling, or second-hand items, please update nametape to reflect new ‘owner’. Socks! We have lots of unnamed grey & white socks – please fold over the label & sew at the top (and not on elastic as these nametapes fall off). If you feel that you are missing a particular item of clothing it may well be in the care of Christine Mifsud in the Laundry area; otherwise don’t hesitate to contact the Office if you need any further assistance.

Year 6 will visit Abbeyfield Residence tomorrow and have the opportunity to meet a range of veterans from the Second World War with servicemen from all the main arms (RAF, Navy and Army), nurses, prisoners of war and even a spy! It is a great chance, of course, for the generations to mix in the informal setting of Abbeyfield Residence’s lounge.
Next Tuesday, the Year 3 children will be visiting Wakehurst Place, the Sussex branch of Kew Gardens and will be looking at plant growth and seed dispersal.

We look forward to welcoming Nursery – Year 3 parents to their Pre-Prep Parents Evening on Wednesday 10th May, 6.30pm in the Peake.

We are very much looking forward to welcoming prospective families to our Cumnor Open Day on Friday 12th May at 10.00am. It is always a pleasure to watch our pupils proudly escorting visitors around the school.
It is with regret that we have decided to cancel the Cumnor Summer Ball on Saturday 13th May. Unfortunately we did not quite reach the numbers required to make the event viable on this occasion. However, next year we hope to reschedule, with the date well in advance, and enlist the help of our parent body to enjoy once again one of Cumnor’s most social events!
As ever, I am delighted to share our weekly list of Cumnor Credits. These are now available to view on the Cumnor website using the following link.
