Meet the Heads

By Sarah Mitchell

Last week saw us host our inaugural ‘Meet the Heads’ event. Welcoming the Heads from Brighton College, Mayfield, Tonbridge and Worth, the panel discussion gave Cumnor parents an insight into the current challenges facing senior schools as well as providing an opportunity to learn more about the culture and approach of each school.

Forming another important step within our senior school ‘journey’, the evening offered a rare opportunity to speak informally with Heads from leading independent senior schools and to think beyond the Prep school years. The strength of these relationships is of paramount importance to the individualised approach that sits at the heart of Cumnor, with senior schools listening ‘keenly’ to their Prep school peers.

“It was brilliantly organised and really valuable; a plethora of useful intel and opinions.”

When asked to reflect on the attributes of Cumnor pupils who have joined their respective schools, curiosity was at the fore. Quietly confident, entrepreneurial, modest, engaged and well-mannered were just some of the characteristics noted as being imbued in our children. Characteristics that stand our children in good stead to grasp every opportunity with both hands and embrace the spirit of adventure, while still offering potential for growth.

The evening was also an opportunity to reflect on the immense privilege and value of independent education. Not only through excellent teaching and learning, but in the ways in which we can allow for creativity, especially through our Kudos curriculum, to be busy and purposeful and to build community.

“To develop young people with assurance, aspiration, empathy and humour gives us cause for great optimism. It is a joy to see.”
