A Typical Day

Our day centres around explorative play. Children have access to a wide and stimulating range of activities with which to engage freely. Guided play involves our fully qualified staff and our curriculum specialists in music, art, drama, sport and swimming.

A typical day may include:

  • Play, free and guided, including:
    • Creative – printing, painting, crafting, moulding
    • Investigative – problem solving and exploration
    • Outdoor – whatever the weather
    • Messy – including water, sand, mud, foam, jelly, spaghetti
    • Imaginative – dressing up, role play, story telling
    • Small world – including motors and maps, dolls, zoo, jungle, dinosaurs, trains and travel, hospital and home
    • Construction – including Lego, stickle bricks, blocks, straws
  • Mark-making, manipulation and writing – developing fine motor skills
  • Number exploration – developing early, concrete, pictorial and abstract mathematical skills
  • Music and music-making – singing, percussion, games and rhythm development
  • Story time – reading, rhyme, story making, poetry, repetition, story sacks
  • Circle time – exploring feelings and actions
  • Swimming
  • Dance and movement
  • Drama
  • Woodpeckers Forest School – fully equipped, set in the woods within school grounds
  • Tumble time – physical education activities, games and learning
  • ICT – use of interactive tablets and whiteboards, ‘beebots’ and early coding activities
  • Quiet time to rest and sleep in our designated quiet room
  • Snacks, hot lunch, sandwiches, drinks, hot supper, as appropriate
  • Whole school activities and special days  – including Nativity, Sports Day, Book Week, Science Week and termly specialist events

Nursery sessions include:
• 08:00 – 12:45  – Mornings including lunch
• 08:00 – 15:00 – Pre-Prep School day including lunch
• 08:00 – 17:00/18:00 – Full Day including lunch​​​
• 07:00 – 19:00 – Jim-Jam Day​​​​: Drop-off at 7am (in their pyjamas if you wish) and collect at 7pm (ready for bed) having had all their meals (snacks, lunch and a hot supper) and a wonderful day. Children can, of course, be dropped off and collected between these times as required.
