Cumnor remains committed to boarding, especially for children in their last two years, and offers a range of flexible boarding options to suit family life. Offering a host of new experiences and opportunities, full-time, weekly and flexi-boarders are nurtured in a home-from-home environment where they can develop personally, socially and creatively.
We strive to create a caring community where we all look out for and support each other, recognising that everyone has individual and unique talents to bring to the boarding experience. Boarding is safe, fun and friendly at Cumnor House with up to 74 pupils in the house at any one time. Cumnor boarders leave with a feeling of achievement and with a group of friends for life, having had an ideal preparation for their onward senior school in a protected and familial atmosphere.
Housed in the main school building, Cumnor’s dorms have far reaching views over the South Downs with children boarding from within Sussex, London and overseas. Houseparents, and teaching staff, and the children themselves all play a vital role in creating and supporting our vibrant boarding community.
For children in Year 6 and above, we have a range of boarding options including full or weekly boarding and for London based families, our flexible approach and escorted weekend travel offers convenience and peace of mind. Located just fifteen minutes from Haywards Heath which services London Bridge, London Victoria, Clapham Junction and Kings Cross in under an hour, we can bring our idyllic country prep school education within reach.
Our flexible boarding options also extend to Year 4 where we offer the option for day pupils to board on a Friday night or to extend over the weekend including Saturday and Sunday nights.
The boarding house is run by Rob and Caroline Park. They live in the House with their son and daughter. Mr Park runs the house and coaches Games to all year groups throughout the school, while Mrs Park teaches PE and Games, as well as teaching in the Learning Enhancement Department.
As parents ourselves, Caroline and I work hard to ensure every child feels known, is supported and has and enjoyable boarding experience. Whether on a termly or occasional Friday night basis, children have the opportunity to benefit from the range of experiences boarding offers, be that additional instrument practice, supervised prep and other schoolwork or the opportunity to relax and socialise with friends and staff.
