A typical nursery day

No single day is the same here. We go above and beyond to ensure your child is happy and secure so that their confidence will grow and their learning flourish.

We believe in learning through play and our Nursery is designed to provide open-ended opportunities to explore, independently and with a guiding hand.

As we are an integral part of the wider school, our children are able to access a wealth of opportunities to stimulate their natural curiosity, and boost their physical and mental wellbeing on a daily basis. They will be busily engaged in cooking, messy play, role play, arts and crafts, and early reading and writing as well as timetabled swimming, PE, dance and yoga.

All of this is guided by our highly skilled, trusted and empathetic staff. We work through, and beyond, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum and tailor learning to draw out the individual in each child, seamlessly supporting their transition to the next stage of their learning journey.

Active Engagement

We are active explorers and take every opportunity to venture outside. Our free-flow outdoor play areas, the extensive school grounds and Woodpeckers, our ‘school in the woods’, provide the very best canvas to explore, discover and develop a love of the outside world.

Sleep and Rest

We value quiet time just as much as play. After lunch, all children have a chance to rest to recharge their batteries for another busy afternoon. For those that need to sleep, we have a dedicated sleep and sensory room. We also have regular ‘Circle Time’ sessions, when children can share their news, ideas and feelings and learn to listen to others.

Nutrition

Eating well and building positive habits starts early and our children are extremely well catered for by Cumnor’s chefs, who are passionate about food and dedicated to making food fun. Cooked on site from scratch, we provide up to three hot meals a day including breakfast, lunch and supper. We cater for all dietary requirements and ensure our food is nutritionally balanced and seasonal.

We believe that mealtimes are also an important learning opportunity and so our Caterpillars and Butterflies have their cooked lunch in the main school dining room where we actively encourage them to try new food, support them in learning to use cutlery and build early social skills.

Words from our Nursery parents

Cumnor nursery is an extremely special place. Happy, confident, supported and loved; the children have the very best early years’ experience!
My child has absolutely flourished. He is thriving and his confidence grows day by day. I am happy knowing he is safe and cared for while I’m at work and he is happy making friends and learning new things.
I can’t rate or recommend this nursery highly enough. My son settled quickly and bonded with both teachers and children alike. The staff are so attentive and caring and so creative with the children. The setting is fantastic; light and bright and lots of room for the children to explore, and the grounds are brilliant for them to go on adventures with the team. Honestly, best nursery!
The staff are exceptional and always willing to help and advise. Without a doubt would recommend it to all family and friends.
The wonderful experiences the children have is so exciting to be a part of. The staff have been extraordinary and are all educated to a high level which makes such a difference to their learning.
Unbelievable nursery; the love and care they give to the children is incredible. Would not dream of sending my little boy anywhere else.
The warm, friendly, caring and deeply kind staff went above and beyond to ensure my child settled quickly and put us instantly at ease too.
The whole environment and journey from Bees to Caterpillars to Butterflies has been just wonderful. My son really has spread his wings in preparation for Reception. I can only thank the wonderful staff who make his days so enriching, educational and joyful!
