We believe in learning through play and our Nursery is designed to provide open-ended opportunities to explore, independently and with a guiding hand.
As we are an integral part of the wider school, our children are able to access a wealth of opportunities to stimulate their natural curiosity, and boost their physical and mental wellbeing on a daily basis. They will be busily engaged in cooking, messy play, role play, arts and crafts, and early reading and writing as well as timetabled swimming, PE, dance and yoga.
All of this is guided by our highly skilled, trusted and empathetic staff. We work through, and beyond, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum and tailor learning to draw out the individual in each child, seamlessly supporting their transition to the next stage of their learning journey.
Active Engagement
Active Engagement
We are active explorers and take every opportunity to venture outside. Our free-flow outdoor play areas, the extensive school grounds and Woodpeckers, our ‘school in the woods’, provide the very best canvas to explore, discover and develop a love of the outside world.
Sleep and Rest
Sleep and Rest
We value quiet time just as much as play. After lunch, all children have a chance to rest to recharge their batteries for another busy afternoon. For those that need to sleep, we have a dedicated sleep and sensory room. We also have regular ‘Circle Time’ sessions, when children can share their news, ideas and feelings and learn to listen to others.
Nutrition
Nutrition
Eating well and building positive habits starts early and our children are extremely well catered for by Cumnor’s chefs, who are passionate about food and dedicated to making food fun. Cooked on site from scratch, we provide up to three hot meals a day including breakfast, lunch and supper. We cater for all dietary requirements and ensure our food is nutritionally balanced and seasonal.
We believe that mealtimes are also an important learning opportunity and so our Caterpillars and Butterflies have their cooked lunch in the main school dining room where we actively encourage them to try new food, support them in learning to use cutlery and build early social skills.
