Art and design

We value art highly at Cumnor, inspiring all our budding artists to express themselves freely, and with confidence. Our reputation for excellence is founded in nurturing individual creativity.

We are firing young imaginations, nurturing individual creativity and developing technical skills for the future.

We challenge children to develop their own, original ideas, and support them with the practical elements that enable them to become technically proficient.

Raising the bar, and drawing on her background in textile design, our dedicated Head of Art encourages children to work with a wide range of materials and processes in both 2D and 3D media, including sketching, painting, printmaking, textiles, ceramics, sculpture and animation.

A sketchbook work culture sits at the heart of our approach, encouraging everyone to keep art journals and to instil a lifelong love of drawing.

Our distinct approach is consistently recognised through the number of Art Scholarships our children have secured at a range of senior schools including Brighton College, King’s Canterbury, Tonbridge, Eastbourne and Hurst.

Destination Schools

Joined by inspirational artists and art educators, our children regularly enjoy masterclasses, all taking place in the Art Studio, a dedicated, light-filled space with a mezzanine area for our Scholars’ enrichment program. We also hold an annual exhibition of our Scholars’ work to much acclaim.

Beautifully curated, the standard and variety of work was breath-taking.
