Drama and Dance

Drama and Dance at Cumnor is about variety and inclusion, building confidence and free expression in every child.

Through our extensive Drama and Dance Programme, children learn to interact with others, becoming intuitive and agile communicators, and growing in self-belief.

Capabilities they can count on for the future, as they go onto their senior schools and beyond, confident of who they are and what they can do. From the very beginning, we invite all our children to share in our excitement, get involved and have fun being creative.

We have a duty as teachers to create memories. Our Drama Scholarship Programme supports students to reach ever higher and fulfil their potential. It has enabled our keenest and most talented pupils win Drama Scholarships to Brighton College, Worth, Eastbourne, Tonbridge, King’s Canterbury, Hurstpierpoint and Ardingly over the last few years.

Drama

Every single child from Reception to Year 8 will have the opportunity to perform in at least one of our 30+ events each year. From intimate coffee concerts and drama showcases, to seasonal concerts, variety shows, nativity plays, musicals and our annual set piece, the outdoor Shakespeare performance.

Whether their dream is to perform centre-stage, to design the set, create the stage make-up or be a sound or lighting technician, every child has an important role to play.

LAMDA

As part of our Performing Arts Programme, from Year 4 we offer the opportunity to work towards London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA) examinations.

A wonderful way to learn important life skills, pupils take part in fun, imaginative and expressive lessons, encouraging confidence and the development of communication and physical awareness.  Each grade encourages and challenges different aspects of text, language, creativity and vocal strength; inspiring young minds to discover their voice.

Dance

We believe in the discipline of dance and the skills it trains for life. We offer a range of classes in our purpose-built Dance Studio, including ballet, modern dance, street dance and jazz; and collaborate with renowned dance companies such as ZooNation to widen our provision and increase its appeal to all our pupils.

Our commitment to the Performing Arts does not stop at the school gates; our love of the arts is something that we share with our wider community.
