Cumnor in the Community
Cumnor House Sussex, its parents and children are actively involved in our local community and see this is a vital part of our role.
Our longstanding Christmas Fayre is renowned across Sussex, and beyond, for marking the start of the Christmas season and supports local businesses as well as raising significant sums for charity. Our chosen charity for 2019 is the Respiratory Unit at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton. In 2018, we raised £25,000 for FAST UK, to help fund pioneering scientific research into finding a cure for Angelman Syndrome, as well as providing support to families in the UK. Cumnor’s Christmas Fayre has raised a phenomenal £400,000 for charitable causes since 2001.
Throughout the academic year, the children are passionate about selecting local causes that are close to their hearts and they plan and organise their own fundraising events, often focused around their Houses. Highlights are shared on our social media channels and in our annual School Magazine.
In addition, we strive to ensure our School’s fantastic facilities are shared with and benefit the local community – ranging from hosting regular science workshops in The Peake, shared author visits and drama performances with our neighbouring schools, use of our sporting facilities including the all-weather surface, swimming pool & sports hall, as well as the hosting of free seminars and evening fund-raising events in our Theatre.
