The ripple effect

The objectives of The Foundation reflect Cumnor’s commitment to individual opportunity, excellence, and community – a commitment on which the school was built and continues to thrive; and in doing so, we respect tradition and welcome innovation.

A Cumnor Foundation Scholarship covers 100% of school fees at Cumnor from Year 4 through to the end of Year 8. We then go on to support the move to senior school, working with our Foundation Scholarship families to help secure a means-tested financial support from Years 9 to 13.

We know that when a child is given educational opportunity, their confidence blossoms. Curiosity, academic attainment, personal development and ambition then follow.

Its effects are found closer to home too. The importance of diversity in any school environment is now well understood and valued, and so everyone in our community is hugely enriched from the programme. We also see its impact on the families of our Scholars. The ambitions they have for their child become goals of their own, and so the whole family experiences positive change, be that re-training, returning to higher education or embarking on new, exciting career paths.

At the age of 11, I received a transformational bursary to attend an independent senior school and full financial support until the age of 18. This opportunity had a huge impact on me, expanding my horizons, increasing my confidence and enabling me to fulfil my potential. I am very proud to lead the efforts to expand the Foundation Scholarship programme at Cumnor and help even more talented children in the future.

Hear from our Foundation Scholars

The Foundation Scholarships programme provides a rare opportunity and I feel lucky to have this chance. I hope more children can have these opportunities. The scholarship hasn't just helped me, it has given my family more belief.
Latin feels like a secret language as it isn’t spoken or understood as much anymore. It’s my favourite subject – I can’t wait to become more fluent.
It feels really special that I have been chosen out of quite a few other children who were also trying to get the scholarship. I am loving doing lots of sports and moving around lots of different classrooms.
Over time I've realised just how lucky I am. Now that I am moving to my next school, it feels like it has gone past so quickly. I am excited about my next chapter!
I discovered my love for acting and had the chance to branch out into a musical journey, learning to sing.
